For the first time, stocking was carried out in Ukrainian water bodies, financed directly from the state budget. The funds became available due to an increase in the starting price at auctions for the sale of the right to special use of aquatic biological resources, in particular for the needs of industrial fishing. This was an important stage in the implementation of a new policy of fish resource management, focused on transparency and efficiency.
According to the State Agency of Ukraine for the Development of Land Reclamation, Fisheries and Food Programs, the first stocking took place in the city of Pereyaslav, Kyiv region. It was here that the Kaniv Reservoir was replenished with over 6.5 thousand fish - silver carp, carp and white grass carp. The total mass of the released fish was 1240 kilograms.
Head of the State Agency for Fisheries Igor Klymenok emphasized that such steps are indicative of reforms in the sector. According to him, the state demonstrates a new approach to water resources management, in which transparency, public trust and responsibility are the main ones. He emphasized that the joint efforts of the government, specialists and the public are aimed at restoring the productivity of Ukrainian reservoirs and preserving their potential for future generations.
The choice of fish species for stocking was not accidental and was focused on improving the overall condition of the reservoir. In particular, the silver carp is a natural filter that reduces the "bloom" of water by absorbing excess phytoplankton. Grass carp actively restrains the growth of aquatic vegetation, performing the function of a natural regulator. Carp, in turn, helps improve biochemical processes at the bottom of the reservoir, aerating bottom sediments.
Stocking is of important ecological importance, as it contributes to the preservation and restoration of biodiversity, and also improves water quality in the reservoir. Experts emphasize that such measures not only strengthen aquatic ecosystems, but also create a basis for the sustainable development of fisheries.
The process of introducing aquatic bioresources was strictly controlled by representatives of the Kyiv Fish Protection Patrol and public observers. This ensured compliance with all requirements and standards, which guarantees a successful outcome of the environmental project and increases confidence in future state initiatives in the field of fisheries.
