The National Bank of Ukraine has expanded its series of commemorative coins by issuing a new numismatic product called “Ukrainian Cotton. Unmanned Surface Vehicle “Magura””. The new coin has a face value of 5 hryvnias and is dedicated to one of the most effective examples of modern Ukrainian military developments.
The regulator announced the coin’s release on its official Telegram channel. The NBU emphasizes that the new commemorative coin symbolizes the combination of the engineering ingenuity of Ukrainian developers and the combat skills of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in a full-scale war.
The reverse of the coin depicts a stylized Magura unmanned surface vehicle racing through the sea waves. The upper part of the composition recreates the scene of the destruction of an enemy Su-30 fighter, which emphasizes the ability of Ukrainian sea drones to effectively counter the enemy not only on the water, but also in the air.
A separate element of the design was the emblem of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. It was the special unit “Groop 13”, which is the only one in the structure of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, that used Magura surface drones in real combat conditions during military operations.
The obverse of the coin is made on a matte background and contains a stylized image of Magura — the ancient Slavic goddess of war, victory and eternal life, who was considered the patroness of warriors. It was in her honor that the Magura unmanned boat was named, which became one of the symbols of Ukraine's technological superiority at sea.
The commemorative coin “Ukrainian Cotton. Unmanned Surface Vehicle “Magura”” was put into circulation on December 12, 2025. Sales in the online store of numismatic products of the NBU will start on December 16, 2025. The coin has a face value of 5 hryvnias, and its circulation is limited and amounts to up to 75 thousand pieces in souvenir packaging.
The National Bank emphasizes that since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukraine has repeatedly amazed the world with its ability to effectively destroy the enemy, which has an advantage in military power. This is facilitated by modern developments of Ukrainian gunsmiths, which allow for the implementation of complex and daring military operations.
As noted in the NBU, it is one of such innovative developments that the new coin is dedicated to. Using Magura unmanned boats, the Ukrainian military destroyed a number of Russian ships, and for the first time in history, they hit air targets — Mi-8 helicopters and Su-30 fighters — from a sea-based unmanned platform.
Thus, the new commemorative coin is designed to immortalize the engineering prowess of Ukrainian weapons developers and the combat prowess of the soldiers who turned naval drones into one of the most effective weapons in this war.
