On Wednesday, January 28, the Lithuanian government approved the financing of four projects aimed at the restoration of Ukraine, the total amount of which exceeds 14.5 million euros. The funds will be allocated from the Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid Fund, LRT reports, European Pravda reports.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginenė stressed the importance of the country's participation in the restoration of Ukraine: "I am glad that our promises and agreements are being implemented. Lithuania continues to support Ukraine through various projects and concrete solutions."
According to the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 5 million euros will be allocated for the first phase of the "Schools of the Future in Ukraine" project. Of this amount, 500 thousand euros will be received as a targeted contribution from Ireland to the aid fund.
The first phase of the project will include the technical and architectural design of a school in Zhytomyr, which was destroyed during Russian shelling in 2023. In addition, it is planned to build an underground multifunctional shelter that will ensure the safety of students and staff.
The project will be implemented by the Central Project Management Agency (CPMA), which will be responsible for coordinating construction and technical works, as well as ensuring compliance with safety standards and modern architectural solutions.
This is not the first time that Lithuania has supported Ukrainian initiatives in the field of education and infrastructure. The new projects are designed not only to restore damaged facilities, but also to introduce modern technologies and standards in school construction, which will become an example for further large-scale reconstruction in other regions of Ukraine.
