In January, Ukraine recorded a significant increase in the cost of autogas. Fuel prices rose both in the wholesale segment and in retail, which became noticeable for consumers at gas stations across the country.
At the end of the month, average wholesale prices for autogas increased by UAH 0.32 per liter, while in retail sales the increase was UAH 0.71/liter. As a result, the average cost of LPG at gas stations reached UAH 38.34 per liter, and in the wholesale on FCA terms of delivery - about UAH 33.26/liter. This is reported by Delo.ua with reference to the publication Enkorr.
Analysts note that the key factor in the price increase was the increase in excise tax. From January 1, the excise tax rate increased by EUR 25, which automatically added approximately UAH 1.5 to the cost of each liter of autogas.
Additional pressure on prices was created by currency fluctuations. The jump in the dollar and euro exchange rates led to an increase in the cost price by approximately 60 kopecks per liter. In addition, cold weather also contributed: frosts increased the density of gas, which was reflected in wholesale calculations.
Large gas station chains also played a role in price formation. Market leaders — OKKO and WOG — added about 1 UAH per liter to the retail price, as a result of which the price on the shelves approached 40 UAH/l. At the same time, discounters behaved more restrainedly, which led to an increase in the price gap between them and large chains.
On average, the difference in prices between discounters and leading chains reached 3.96 UAH/l per month, which is 0.50 UAH/l more than in December. This is the maximum figure since at least 2024. Additionally, the demand for autogas was fueled by owners of gas cylinders, who refueled more often at gas stations during the frosty period.
Experts also note that the January increase in LPG prices significantly widened the gap between wholesale and retail prices, but it still remains lower than the average annual figure for 2025, which is 5.39 UAH/l.
In February, the prerequisites for a further increase in purchase prices remain due to the increase in Sonatrach quotes and exchange rate fluctuations. At the same time, fuel network operators have not yet demonstrated a clear willingness to adjust retail prices.
It was previously reported that the Ukrainian autogas market began to respond more actively to weather conditions and energy challenges. In particular, from January 15 to 22, traders increased prices by 140 UAH per ton - to the level of 59,180 UAH/t.
