Zaporizhstal Metallurgical Plant has started shipping rolled steel to Metinvest Tubular Iasi in Romania. This plant became part of the Metinvest Group at the end of 2025, which was part of the company's strategy to expand its presence in the European market.

The mining and metallurgical group itself announced the start of deliveries. The company confirmed that Zaporizhstal has already started systematic shipments of rolled steel for the Romanian pipe asset, integrated into the holding's structure at the end of last year.

Since the beginning of 2026, the Ukrainian plant has supplied 22 thousand tons of hot-rolled steel from structural steel grades to the Iasi plant. The products are certified in accordance with the European standard EN 10025, which allows them to be used for the production of pipe products aimed at EU markets.

The production plan for 2026 envisages the supply of up to 180 thousand tons of rolled steel to the Romanian pipe yard. This volume indicates long-term cooperation between the enterprises and the group's intention to ensure stable utilization of the new asset's capacities.

Acting General Director of Zaporizhstal, Hero of Ukraine Taras Shevchenko noted that the plant's products are traditionally in demand among both European and Ukrainian pipe manufacturers. According to him, every year up to 80% of the enterprise's metal products are used specifically for the production of straight-seam pipes and profiles.

Hot-rolled rolled steel from calm structural steels is in demand in the pipe industry due to its mechanical characteristics. This primarily concerns strength and reliability indicators, which ensure the durability of finished products and compliance with the technical requirements of European standards.

The products are used for the production of round, profile and rectangular welded pipes. Such pipes are used in geothermal engineering, energy, construction, in particular in fire extinguishing systems and other infrastructure projects.

The main sales markets for pipes produced at Metinvest Tubular Iasi are the domestic market of Romania, as well as companies from Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and other European countries. The plant is equipped with five pipe mills, two slitting lines and two coating lines. Its maximum production capacity is 240 thousand tons of products per year.
