The electricity deficit in the power system of Ukraine has significantly decreased compared to the winter period. If in winter the capacity shortage reached 5–6 GW, then as of now it has decreased to 1 GW.
This was reported by the Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal, Liga.net reports. According to him, the current level of deficit is five to six times lower than a few months ago, which creates the prerequisites for easing restrictions on electricity consumption.
The minister emphasized that reducing the deficit allows reducing the number of shutdown queues for the population, as well as introducing more flexible and less rigid schedules for business. Thus, the situation in the power system is gradually stabilizing.
Shmyhal separately noted the adaptation of enterprises to new conditions. According to him, the business is actively developing its own distributed generation, which allows it to partially compensate for the deficit of centralized capacities and reduce the load on the general energy system.
The minister called solar power plants the most affordable and fastest way to increase generation in Ukraine. They require relatively short installation times and ensure the prompt commissioning of new capacities.
At the same time, with the approach of summer and an increase in the number of sunny days, a surplus of solar energy may form. According to Shmyhal, to balance the system, it is necessary to install appropriate storage batteries that will compensate for excess production and ensure the stability of the power grid.
