Polish cheese suppliers are increasingly actively considering the Ukrainian market as a platform for selling surplus products and are ready to apply an aggressive pricing policy. This is about possible dumping, which can increase competition for domestic producers. This is reported by analysts of the Infagro company.
According to experts, Ukrainian cheese producers should review their own pricing strategy now to avoid losing their share of the domestic market. Increasing import pressure is forcing producers to look for new approaches to forming product prices and cooperating with retailers.
Experts note that the state program "Buy Ukrainian" with a cashback mechanism can partially support demand for the national product. At the same time, without systematic promotion and active interaction with retail chains, the effect of such an initiative will be limited. Consumer behavior remains pragmatic: at the time of purchase, the majority is primarily focused on the lower price, and cashback is not always a decisive argument.
Analysts also draw attention to the price imbalance in the supply chain. The basic selling prices for distributors have not actually changed, while retail prices remain significantly higher. As a result, to counteract cheaper imports, manufacturers are forced to regularly launch promotional offers with discounts. However, not everyone can support this format of work, which leads to the loss of positions on store shelves by individual brands.
Regarding production dynamics, it is expected that the output of semi-hard cheeses will remain stable or show a slight increase - depending on the volume of supplies of inexpensive imports. At the same time, the production of cheese products is still at a high level, despite the fact that export prices for this category remain reduced.
In foreign markets, prices for natural cheeses are generally relatively stable. However, in some areas, Ukrainian manufacturers are forced to provide additional discounts in order to maintain competitiveness.
Experts conclude: without a correction in pricing policy and a more active marketing presence, it will be difficult for Ukrainian companies to effectively resist European imports, in particular Polish ones, which may enter the market with significantly lower price offers.
