In March 2026, the Ukrainian automobile market demonstrated interesting trends in the diesel vehicle segment. Despite the overall reduction in the number of registered cars with diesel engines, demand for new models, on the contrary, began to grow. Such dynamics indicate a gradual change in consumer priorities.
According to Ukravtoprom, during March, the Ukrainian car fleet was replenished with 5.1 thousand diesel cars. This is 8% less than in the same period in 2025. At the same time, the market structure has undergone noticeable changes, which was reflected in the ratio of new and used vehicles.
In particular, the number of new diesel passenger cars reached 1.3 thousand units, which is 21% more compared to last year. In contrast, the segment of imported used cars decreased: 3.8 thousand such cars were registered in March, which is 14% less than last year.
Among new diesel cars, crossovers and SUVs were the most popular. The market leader was Renault Duster with 259 registered cars. Next in the ranking were Volkswagen Touareg (180 units), Toyota LC Prado (151 units), Skoda Kodiaq (91 units) and Volkswagen Tiguan (75 units).
As for imported used diesel cars, the leadership is held by Renault Megane — 286 registered cars. The top five most popular also included Nissan Qashqai (258 units), Skoda Octavia (238 units), Hyundai Santa Fe (209 units) and Kia Sorento (178 units).
At the same time, the market is also influenced by external factors, in particular fuel prices. As of mid-April 2026, Ukraine has recorded a significant increase in the cost of diesel fuel. The average price at gas stations has already exceeded 90 hryvnias per liter, which may affect consumer purchasing behavior in the future.
Given these trends, the diesel car market in Ukraine is in a phase of transformation. The growing interest in new cars against the background of a decrease in the import of used models may indicate a gradual renewal of the car fleet, although high fuel prices remain an important deterrent.
