The Ukrainian pear market this season is showing a decline in prices, but the situation for domestic producers remains difficult due to increased competition with imported products. Despite the decrease in prices, Ukrainian gardeners are increasingly losing ground to foreign suppliers in retail chains.
This was reported by Agrotimes with reference to the expert of the fruit and vegetable market of IA "APK-Inform" Kseniia Huseva. She notes that the pear segment in Ukraine remains relatively narrow and has not yet formed a stable mass demand among consumers.
According to the expert, currently the basis of the market supply is two key varieties - the domestic pear "Noyabrska" and the imported variety "Conference". At the same time, it is imported products that continue to dominate in retail chains and occupy the largest share of retail shelves.
Kseniia Huseva emphasizes that growing the Conference variety in Ukraine remains problematic for local gardeners. The reason is difficult climatic conditions that make it difficult to obtain stable fruit quality necessary for modern retail requirements.
In addition to production difficulties within the country, the market situation is also affected by general changes in the structure of demand for fruits. The balance of the “fruit basket” changes depending on seasonal factors and the yield of other crops.
In particular, due to spring frosts this year, apricot and plum crops suffered, which affected consumer preferences. Some buyers began to choose other fruits more often, among which the share of pear consumption increased, which was also reflected in market dynamics and pricing.
