In April 2026, the Ukrainian market for diesel passenger cars showed a decline. According to the results of the month, the country's car fleet was replenished with 5 thousand cars with diesel engines, which is 12% less compared to the same period last year.

This was reported by Ukravtoprom. According to the association, the main reduction fell on the segment of used cars imported from abroad.

Of the total number of registered diesel cars, 1.2 thousand were new cars. In this segment, the market even showed a slight growth - by 2% compared to April 2025. At the same time, the number of imported used diesel cars decreased to 3.8 thousand units, which is 16% less than last year.

The most popular new diesel model in Ukraine in April was Renault Duster. During the month, Ukrainians purchased 404 such cars. The second place was taken by the Volkswagen Touareg with a result of 107 registered cars.

The top three also included the Volkswagen Tiguan, which was chosen by 84 buyers. In addition, the top five most popular new diesel models were the Skoda Kodiaq with an indicator of 70 cars and the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, which was registered in April in the amount of 58 units.

Among imported used diesel cars, the Renault Megane was in the greatest demand. During the month, 303 such cars were imported and registered in Ukraine. Second place went to the Nissan Qashqai — 279 cars.

The list of the most popular used diesel models also included the Skoda Octavia with a result of 251 cars, the Volkswagen Passat — 203 units and the Hyundai Santa Fe, which were registered in 159 units.

Market experts attribute the decrease in demand for diesel cars to several factors at once. Among the main reasons are changing consumer preferences, the increased spread of hybrid and electric models, as well as rising costs for importing and servicing used cars with diesel engines.
