The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine is launching a pilot project that introduces new requirements for exporters of agricultural products. From now on, producers will have to prove that their products were grown without harm to the environment, in particular without deforestation or land degradation after December 31, 2020. This was reported with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine.
The aim of the initiative is to early adapt the Ukrainian agricultural sector to the requirements of EU Regulation 2023/1115, which is due to enter into force on January 1, 2027. It is expected that the new rules will help maintain unhindered access of Ukrainian goods to the European Union market and reduce the risks of introducing trade restrictions for exporters.
A key element of the reform will be a digital system for controlling the origin of products. The verification will be carried out through the State Agrarian Register, where an automated geographic information system will be created to track the entire supply chain - from a specific land plot to the moment of crossing the EU border.
The mechanism of work involves submitting an electronic application by farmers to undergo the verification through their personal account in the State Agrarian Register. After that, the system will automatically verify data on land plots, interacting with the State Land Cadastre of Ukraine and the Register of Real Property Rights to Real Estate through the Trembita data exchange system.
Based on the results of such verification, an official electronic document will be formed - an extract, which will confirm the compliance of products with the environmental requirements of the European Union. This will become a mandatory element for further export.
The Ministry emphasizes that the new approach will increase the transparency of supply chains, reduce regulatory risks for exporters and strengthen Ukraine's position as a reliable and environmentally responsible trading partner in international markets.
