Finland has announced the provision of another, already the 33rd, military assistance package to Ukraine. The cost of the new package is estimated at approximately 128 million euros. This was reported by the country's Ministry of Defense.
The decision to allocate assistance was made on May 29 by the President of Finland based on a corresponding proposal from the government. Thanks to the new package, the total amount of defense support provided by Helsinki to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion will reach 3.4 billion euros.
The Ministry of Defense noted that the assistance will include both material resources from the warehouses of the Finnish Armed Forces and products manufactured and purchased from Finnish defense enterprises. This approach allows for the simultaneous support of Ukraine and the stimulation of the development of the national defense-industrial complex.
Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkinen stressed that Ukraine continues to need assistance from Western allies to counter Russian aggression. According to him, international support remains an important factor in strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities.
The head of the defense department also emphasized that the provision of assistance has a positive effect for Finland itself. In particular, cooperation with Ukraine contributes to the development of the Finnish defense industry, and manufacturers of weapons and military equipment get the opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of their products in real combat conditions.
At the same time, the Finnish side traditionally does not disclose a specific list of weapons and equipment that will be included in the package. Details on logistics, delivery routes and the schedule for transferring assistance to the Ukrainian side are also not reported.
Helsinki explains this policy by security considerations. The country's authorities believe that non-disclosure of information about the content and transportation of military assistance is a necessary condition for guaranteeing its safe and timely arrival in Ukraine.
The new package was another confirmation of Finland's unwavering support for Ukraine and demonstrated the country's readiness to continue to actively participate in strengthening the defense capabilities of the Ukrainian state in the context of the ongoing war.
