In 2024, the volume of foreign direct investment (FDI) from Poland to Ukraine decreased by 10%, amounting to .5 million, compared to .6 million in 2023. Despite the decline, this figure significantly exceeds the level of 2022, when Polish investments amounted to only \ million. In total, over the past three years, Poland has invested more than million in the Ukrainian economy.
This is evidenced by data published by the analytical center of the international recruiting company Gremi Personal. Although the volume of capital investments has decreased, experts note that such dynamics has an explanation and is not a sign of a lack of interest in the Ukrainian market.
Analyst of the investment company Concorde Capital Oleksandr Paraschiy explains that the decrease in the volume of investments is primarily due to lower incomes of Polish companies received in Ukraine. A large share of FDI from Poland is reinvested earnings, i.e. funds earned in Ukraine by Polish companies that were reinvested in local businesses.
In addition to the decline in earnings, gradual changes in currency regulation could also have affected the dynamics. In particular, we are talking about the easing of restrictions on cross-border transfers and the withdrawal of dividends. These innovations create new opportunities for investors, but at the same time change the structure of cash flows, which may reduce the volume of reinvestment locally.
According to Paraschiy, over the past nine years, the level of direct investment from Poland has usually fluctuated between million and million per year. The highest figure was recorded in 2021 - million, which still remains the peak level for the past decade.
Despite the slight decrease, experts do not predict sharp fluctuations in the future. Paraschiy believes that in the coming years, the volume of Polish investments will remain approximately in the same range. This indicates a stable, albeit cautious, interest of Polish business in the Ukrainian market, even in a difficult economic environment.
