During January 2025, demining of five plots of agricultural land was completed in Ukraine as part of the state program for compensation of costs for clearing territories. The total area of cleared lands amounted to 640 hectares, and the cost of the work performed, covered by state funding, reached UAH 20.6 million. This is an important step in the restoration of agriculture in the deoccupied territories.
The press service of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine reported on the progress of the program. According to First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko, the government intends to continue the program and plans to attract additional funding from international donors. This will significantly expand the scale of demining work and make even more land suitable for cultivation.
In addition to the work already completed, in January, demining of land plots covering more than 1.3 thousand hectares began. These works are carried out within the framework of 16 previously concluded agreements, and their total cost is estimated at UAH 85.1 million. Demining operators work in various regions where explosive objects continue to pose a threat to farmers and their farms.
The state demining compensation program also provides for support for farmers through financial mechanisms. Thus, in January, UAH 94.7 million was transferred to special escrow accounts. These funds will be used to clear an additional 1,546.3 hectares of agricultural land, which will allow expanding the area of land safe for work.
The significant interest of farmers in the program is confirmed by the growing number of applications. In January alone, the Ministry of Economy received 34 new applications for participation in the state demining financing program. This indicates the urgency of the problem and the need for further expansion of the project.
Given the scale of mined territories, the Ukrainian government continues to work to attract international assistance and expand opportunities for effective demining. It is expected that, thanks to the support of international partners and the introduction of the latest technologies, the process of clearing land from explosive objects will be accelerated, which will allow farmers to return to full-fledged work faster.
