Lviv International Airport named after Danylo Halytskyi may resume operations in late spring or early summer, if the security situation permits. According to the airport's general director, Tetyana Romanovska, this forecast corresponds to the "optimistic scenario" of the opening of Ukrainian skies.
As the airport manager noted in an interview with the "High Castle" publication, at least five to seven airlines are already ready to return to Lviv and start regular flights. Among them are such international carriers as Wizz Air, Air Baltic, Turkish Airlines, Sky Up, Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa and LOT.
Romanovska emphasized that airlines will be able to quickly resume operations within 3-4 days after the opening of airspace. However, this decision directly depends on security guarantees and the situation in the region.
In parallel, the Ukrainian government is considering the possibility of restoring another airport in the west of the country - in Uzhgorod. This will partially relieve passenger traffic and create alternative air routes for citizens.
The management of Lviv airport is particularly interested in resuming flights in the summer, as the largest passenger traffic traditionally falls on the holiday season.
"We really hope that the airport will be operational in the summer. If we manage to open the sky in April or May, it will be a real breakthrough," Romanovskaya concluded.
