Poland is considering imposing a unilateral ban on Ukrainian grain imports after September 15, if the European Commission does not extend the restrictions, Polish Agriculture Minister Robert Telus said at a press conference on Tuesday, August 22.

Disputes within the coalition of countries that impose restrictions on imports of Ukrainian grain are causing tension in the European Union. Some EU members oppose Poland's position, which favors extending the restrictions beyond September 15. Despite this, Robert Telus said that Poland intends to unilaterally impose its own ban on Ukrainian grain imports.

In order to reach a consensus and coordinate joint actions on the issue of grain supplies from Ukraine, the Polish Minister of Agriculture plans to hold meetings with his colleagues from Romania and Slovakia. The idea of creating a coalition that could coordinate the countries' actions on this issue is being discussed.

The Polish government expresses hope that the situation will be resolved peacefully within the European Union, avoiding the destruction of unity. However, if it is necessary to protect the interests of its farmers, Poland is ready to impose unilateral import bans.

Minister Telus emphasized that this decision is not subject to discussion, as the interests of the agricultural sector are important for Poland. And regardless of the position of other countries, Poland is ready to take appropriate measures to ensure its interests.
