In the wake of reports that the occupiers have mined the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant again, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi is planning to visit Ukraine, Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko said.
According to Galushchenko, the process of equipment degradation continues at ZNPP, and despite the admission of IAEA experts for the third attempt, the overall situation remains tense.
The minister claims that concealment of the real situation at ZNPP by the Russians could have serious consequences, and he hopes that the arrival of the IAEA director general will increase attention to this problem.
As a reminder, the last visit of the IAEA Director General to Ukraine took place in June 2023. According to Halushchenko, the world's attention is now focused on the events at ZNPP due to the repeated mining and security threats.
In this regard, Greenpeace experts have expressed the opinion that the IAEA does not effectively monitor security at the energy facility occupied by Russian invaders and may even conceal the true state of affairs.
In September 2023, the IAEA General Conference adopted a resolution demanding the immediate return of Zaporizhzhia NPP to full control of Ukraine. However, according to the Minister of Energy, the Russian side ignores these demands, which worsens the overall situation.
Currently, the situation at the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP continues to deteriorate, and the Russian occupiers are not taking the necessary measures to ensure the safe operation of the nuclear facility.
