Since the beginning of this year, when the Ukrainian land market became open to legal entities, companies have shown a tendency to actively sell land rather than purchase it for agricultural use.
According to Opendatabot, starting January 1, companies have the right to officially purchase up to 10 thousand hectares of land. Surprisingly, instead of buying new land, businesses have shown a tendency to sell land they already own.
During the first two weeks of 2024, companies sold a total of 207 hectares of land.
Currently, the State Land Cadastre tracks the activities of 281 Ukrainian companies that own land plots of more than 100 hectares each.
The largest landowner in Ukraine is SVITANOK Agricultural Company with an area of over 5,000 hectares. Druzhkivka Ore Mining is in second place with 3.3 thousand hectares, and Zemletrade is in third place with 3.1 thousand hectares.
Since the beginning of the year, ZEMLETRADE alone has sold 20 hectares, while other companies have not yet conducted any land transactions.
Already at the beginning of the year, two companies that sold off their land banks to less than 100 hectares dropped out of the top landowners - Dolyna and Ekor Garden CTS, which previously owned 388 and 120 hectares of land, respectively, as of January 1, 2024.
