In 2023, Ukraine experienced a real electric car boom, importing more than 37 thousand electric cars, which was a record figure and marked a 4-fold increase compared to 2021. According to Opendatabot, the most popular brands of electric cars in Ukraine are Volkswagen, Tesla, and Nissan, with Lviv region leading the way in terms of the number of registered electric vehicles.

In total, 37,953 electric cars were imported to Ukraine in 2023, which is 4 times more than in 2021, when the figure was 8,996 electric cars. It is important to note that the share of electric cars in total vehicle imports was 10%, compared to 1.2% in 2021.

According to analysts, Lviv region has become the leader in the number of registrations of imported electric vehicles, with 5,133 cars. Kyiv ranks second with 4,913 electric cars, and Odesa region is in third place with 3,412 electric vehicles.

The most popular electric car brands in Ukraine in 2023 were Volkswagen, Tesla, Nissan, Renault, and Honda. According to analysts, the Nissan Leaf has been in first place for four years, with 5,000 imported cars in 2023. Volkswagen ID.4 with 3,770 cars is the second most popular, and Tesla Model 3 with 3,291 electric cars completes the top three.

It should be noted that among the imported electric cars in 2023, there is also a Citroen Saxo made in 2000, which turned out to be the oldest of them.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the total number of vehicles imported to Ukraine in 2023 amounted to almost 400 thousand, which is the lowest figure for the last three years. Kyiv, Lviv and Odesa regions were the leaders among the regions in terms of the number of imported vehicles.

In December 2023, more than 4.6 thousand battery electric vehicles (BEVs) were added to the Ukrainian fleet, which is almost three times more than in the previous year. It is also worth noting that almost 44% of new electric vehicles purchased by Ukrainians from January to November were white.
