Ukrainian industry has seen a significant increase in electricity consumption in the winter. According to the Ministry of Energy, in December 2023, electricity consumption by industrial companies increased by 37.6% to 2.34 billion kW compared to 1.69 billion kW in 2022.
In November last year, electricity consumption by industry was also impressive - an increase of 25.7% compared to the same period in 2022 (2.26 billion kW versus 1.79 billion kW). This indicates the active development of the industrial sector in Ukraine.
It is also worth noting that electricity consumption by households increased by 11% in December 2023 compared to the previous year.
The Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko emphasized that the stable operation of the power system, even in the face of hostile attacks, made it possible to ensure uninterrupted power supply for industry and the population, contributing to the country's economic growth.
A large-scale repair campaign at energy facilities coordinated by the Ministry of Energy was an important component of the high electricity production. Nuclear power plants exceeded forecasts by 10%, hydroelectric power plants by 37%, and alternative energy sources produced 2% more than planned.
The deviation of thermal power plants from the forecasts is noteworthy: TPPs and CHPPs showed relatively large deviations - electricity production was 24% less and 10% less than the respective forecasts.
