Ukraine's nuclear power industry is celebrating a significant breakthrough: for the first time in the country's history, power units at national nuclear power plants operated without interruption during the heating season. According to the press service of Energoatom, this year was a crucial one in planning repairs and operation of nuclear power units.
An important indicator of NPP performance is the installed capacity utilization rate, which reached one hundred percent this heating season. This indicator reflects how efficiently power units are used during the cold months and the quality of electricity produced.
Earlier, in 2020-2021, the installed capacity utilization rate was 64.7%, and in the last heating season it reached 81.9%. Now it has increased to the maximum level, which is evidence of a successful strategy for planning repairs and maintaining efficient operation of NPPs.
The new approach to outage planning introduced by Energoatom focuses on maximizing the operation of power units during the cold season. This strategy has led to positive results and ensured reliable operation of NPPs throughout the season.
Particular attention should also be paid to reducing the duration of scheduled outages at power units. The less time a unit spends on repairs, the more electricity it can generate, which is important for the country's energy security.
It should also be noted that in 2023, one of the power units at South Ukraine NPP underwent a life extension without significantly increasing the duration of repairs. This is another confirmation of the successful work of Ukrainian experts in the field of nuclear energy.
