On May 22, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed in the second reading the draft law No. 10265 aimed at implementing European legislation on roaming. This was announced by MP Oleksiy Honcharenko of the European Solidarity party.
According to the new law, Ukrainians traveling to the European Union will be able to use their national mobile tariffs without additional roaming charges for 4 months. This decision will facilitate the convenience of Ukrainian tourists and businessmen visiting EU countries.
In addition, the principle of "home tariffs" will be applied to EU subscribers staying in Ukraine. This means that they will be able to use mobile services under the same conditions as in their home country, without additional restrictions or overpayments.
The introduction of a common roaming area with the EU is a step towards Ukraine's integration with European standards and facilitates international communications and mobility of citizens. It also opens up new opportunities for cooperation and exchange of experience between countries.
The law also provides for consumer protection mechanisms in the telecommunications sector, which is an important aspect to ensure fair competition and quality of services.
However, it should be borne in mind that the introduction of unified roaming may require additional technical changes in telecom operators' networks, which may take some time before the new rules are fully implemented.
According to the plans, the new rules should be fully implemented by the end of 2022, which will allow Ukrainians and Europeans to enjoy all the benefits of the single roaming area in the near future.
