The business community of Ukraine is actively advocating for the need to amend the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) for a full and effective reboot of the Bureau of Economic Security (BEB). According to the European Business Association (EBA), without these changes, it is possible not to achieve maximum results in the fight against economic crime and the protection of the rights of entrepreneurs from excessive pressure from law enforcement agencies.
In June of this year, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a decision on the BEB reform, which received active support from business and international partners of Ukraine. This reform is aimed at improving the effectiveness of combating economic crime and smuggling, which is an important step in the direction of the country's European integration.
"The BEB reform is fundamental for Ukraine, especially in the context of its European ambitions," the EBA notes. They emphasize that this is an important element of the negotiation process regarding integration into the European Union.
However, according to the business position, in order to achieve the full efficiency of the Bureau of Economic Security, certain changes must be made to the CPC. These changes should guarantee the protection of entrepreneurs from possible abuses by law enforcement agencies, as well as prevent illegal interference in economic activity.
Business representatives believe that only in this case, the BEB will be able to effectively perform its functions and contribute to the development of the economic environment in Ukraine, creating favorable conditions for business and investments.
Currently, the business community is actively interacting with government structures and legislative bodies in order to develop constructive solutions regarding the necessary changes to the CPC, which will contribute to the optimal functioning of the Bureau of Economic Security in Ukraine.
