In 2024, Ukraine's metallurgical sector experienced a significant upswing, which was an important step towards restoring the country's industrial capacity. The largest increase was demonstrated in steel production - the growth was 21.6%.
Dynamics of pig iron production
Pig iron production in Ukraine increased by 18.1%, reaching 7 million tons compared to 6 million tons in 2023. According to the Ukrmetallurgprom association, January 2024 was the most productive month. Then production volumes increased by 44.5%, reaching 554,700 tons compared to 383,900 tons in January 2023.
Steel production: the best result
Steel production showed a growth of 21.6%, reaching 7.6 million tons in 2024 compared to 6.2 million tons a year earlier. January was particularly notable, when production volumes increased by an impressive 91.6% to reach 544,000 tons compared to 283,900 tons in 2023.
Rolling: steady growth
Rolled steel production also increased significantly, reaching 6.2 million tons in 2024 compared to 5 million tons in 2023, corresponding to a growth of 15.8%. The largest increase was recorded in January, when rolled steel volumes increased by 75.9%, reaching 453,000 tons compared to 257,000 tons in January the previous year.
Results for 11 months
During the period from January to November 2024, steel production increased by 23%, reaching 7 million tons. Significant growth was also recorded in the production of pig iron and rolled products - by 20% and 23%, respectively.

The growth of the metallurgical industry indicates a gradual recovery of Ukraine's industry, which is critically important for its economy and export potential. Achievements in the production of steel, pig iron and rolled products demonstrate Ukraine's ability to consolidate its positions in the global metal products market even in difficult conditions.
