Ukraine is preparing to ratify a free trade agreement with Turkey, which should open up new prospects for bilateral economic cooperation. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky during a meeting with Turkish government officials and business representatives.
As the head of state reported on his Telegram channel, Ukraine considers Turkey as a strategic partner, including in security matters, and is ready to consolidate this cooperation at the legislative level. According to him, the document may be ratified during the upcoming visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Ukraine.
Zelensky recalled that this step is a logical continuation of the agreements reached during his recent visit to Ankara. He emphasized that Turkish business is already actively working in Ukraine, in particular in the fields of construction, infrastructure and the defense industry. Ukraine highly values not only economic partnership, but also military-technical support from Ankara, in particular the supply of Bayraktar drones.
The parties also considered the issue of joint production of drones, which could become a new direction in bilateral cooperation. Particular attention was paid to the involvement of Turkish companies in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, which opens up wide opportunities for investors and contractors from Turkey.
In addition to economic issues, security aspects were also discussed during the meeting. Ukraine and Turkey continue to work on achieving a just peace, as well as strengthening a strategic partnership that includes political, trade and military cooperation.
Zelensky stressed that the free trade agreement with Turkey will be an important step for both countries and will allow significantly increasing trade volumes, attracting investments and creating new jobs.
