The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted in the second reading and in general an important bill designed to improve the regulation of remote and home work in the country. The law, numbered 10164-1, creates new rules for employees working from home and provides support for parents whose children are studying remotely.
According to the press service of the Parliament, this law aims to restore the rights of employees who perform their duties remotely, in particular in conditions when many people are forced to work from home due to the pandemic or other circumstances. The updated norms also concern social guarantees and improving working conditions for such categories of employees.
In particular, the bill includes several important innovations. One of the main ones is the consolidation at the legislative level of the possibility of business trips for remote employees. Now, such employees who have the appropriate conditions in their employment contract will be able to go on business trips, just like their colleagues working in the usual format.
Another important innovation is support for parents, especially those whose children are studying remotely. According to the new rules, parents of children under 14 years of age will be able to switch to remote work by agreement with the employer. This will allow them to combine work duties with caring for a child and their education at home, which is relevant in modern conditions, when distance learning has become common practice.
Another important point is the strengthening of social protection for remote workers. The bill provides for a number of measures aimed at providing greater social support and guarantees for those who work remotely. This includes proper conditions for their health, protection against unlawful dismissal, and other social benefits that should facilitate work in conditions of remote performance of duties.
The draft law also provides for clarification of procedures for regulating labor relations between employers and remote workers, which will allow avoiding possible legal conflicts. It is expected that such changes will contribute to improving working conditions, increasing employee productivity and reducing the risks associated with the violation of their rights.
The adoption of this law is an important step for Ukraine, which is gradually adapting to the new realities of work in the context of digitalization and the pandemic. The law will help create more comfortable and stable working conditions for millions of Ukrainians who work remotely, and will also protect their social and labor rights.
