Given the possibility of Russia continuing large-scale attacks on the energy system, the Ukrainian government is actively preparing for the upcoming heating season. Already, more than half of the planned repairs of energy facilities have been completed.
This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on his Facebook page.
As of mid-August, experts have resumed operation of 5 nuclear power units, but 4 units are under repair.
In addition, 62% of the power units of thermal power plants (TPPs) and 70% of the power units of combined heat and power plants (CHPs) have been repaired. In addition, repair works are underway at 32 units of hydroelectric power plants.
"Ukrenergo has already restored almost 80% of the trunk power grids, reaching the level before the war. In particular, high-voltage substations have been restored.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the repair work is going according to plan. To ensure greater resilience of energy facilities, multi-level protection is being implemented. In addition, a program to replace incandescent lamps with energy-efficient LED lamps is being implemented jointly with the European Union. In particular, this program will be used by cultural institutions, social protection, condominiums, libraries, museums, sports organizations, and others. The goal is to replace 50 million lamps, which will help reduce the load on the power grid.
To maintain the power grid, it is important to use electricity economically. For this purpose, it is recommended to
keep the temperature in the premises at least 23°C;
turn off powerful electrical appliances or use them alternately;
to transfer work with electrical appliances to morning or night hours;
turn off the lights when leaving the premises.
It is worth noting that numerous problems in the power system that arose last winter persist. In particular, there is a risk that not all repairs will be completed in time, which may lead to new power outages during the winter period.
