Since the beginning of this week, the amount of available tomatoes on the Ukrainian domestic market has significantly decreased, which has led to a slight increase in their prices. Today, imported tomatoes in Ukraine are sold in the range of 78 to 90 hryvnias per kilogram.
This is reported by the EastFruit analytical project.
This price movement is explained by a reduction in the supply of imported tomatoes on the market, in particular those produced in Turkey, due to unfavorable weather conditions.
As a result, the price of imported tomatoes in Ukraine currently ranges from 78 to 90 UAH per kilogram, which is on average 11% higher than at the end of last week.
"A week earlier, importers and wholesalers were actively selling tomatoes that were purchased at the beginning of the month, but did not have time to sell them on time. In addition, supplies to the Ukrainian market were limited last week. This led to a shortage of greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine and allowed importers to increase prices," the analysts said.
According to them, next week the supply of tomatoes from Turkey is expected to increase, which will ease the tension in the market and stabilize prices.
Despite the current increase in tomato prices, wholesale prices remain on average 10% lower than last year, experts say.
