Joint Stock Company "Ukrzaliznytsia" continues its successful trend in the field of cargo transportation, showing growth every month. In March 2024, the company reached a record 16 million tons of cargo transported since the beginning of the full-scale conflict.
This was reported by the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia.
Compared to March 2023, in March 2024, Ukrzaliznytsia increased cargo transportation by a third, reaching 16 million tons. This is also 10% higher than the previous record of February 2024, when the volume of transportation amounted to 14.5 million tons.
Ukrzaliznytsia has seen an increase in freight traffic for the third month in a row, and the record figure for March shows the best results since the beginning of the conflict.
One of the company's priorities is to increase the volume of transportation towards seaports in order to maximize the utilization of the Ukrainian sea corridor.
For example, 5.3 million tons of cargo were transported through port stations, including 2.7 million tons of grain. Western border crossings accounted for 3.4 million tons, including 484 thousand tons of grain.
In March 2024, 8 million tons of cargo were exported, including 3.2 million tons of grain. In total, export shipments accounted for 51% of all cargo transported. The volume of exports increased by more than half compared to March 2023.
Domestic traffic totaled 7 million tons, which is 11% more than in March 2023. Import transportation increased by 65% compared to the same period in 2023 and amounted to 808.3 thousand tons.
"Currently, one third of all rail cargo is transshipped through port stations, which accounts for more than 60% of seaport loading. These are mainly export cargoes, in particular Ukrainian grain. In March, we fulfilled virtually all shippers' requests and continue to improve our operational performance, which is the key to positive results," said Yevhen Liashchenko, Chairman of the Board of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia".
