In the first quarter of 2024, Ukrainians purchased about 4.2 thousand new cars from China, an increase of 75% compared to last year. This was reported by the Ukravtoprom Association.
It is noted that of this number, almost 3 thousand units were new, which reflects an increase of 114% compared to the previous year, and about 1.2 thousand used cars, which shows an increase of 21%.
The share of new Chinese cars in the passenger car market grew by 18%, and in the segment of used cars that are registered in Ukraine for the first time, this figure is 2%.
Most of the cars purchased from China (85%) were electric vehicles, which indicates the growing interest of Ukrainians in environmentally friendly transportation.
Among the most popular models of new Chinese passenger cars in the Ukrainian market, the VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 is the leader with 750 units sold. HONDA eNS1 is in second place (255 units), followed by BYD Song Plus (227 units), NISSAN Ariya (189 units), and GEELY Atlas Pro (164 units).
In the segment of used cars, VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 is the leader (350 units), followed by NISSAN Ariya (103 units), HONDA eNS1 (99 units), TOYOTA bZ4X (70 units) and VOLKSWAGEN ID.6 (48 units).
It is also worth noting that the largest regional markets for new passenger cars in Ukraine in the first quarter of 2024 were the city of Kyiv, Kyiv, Dnipro, Lviv, and Odesa regions. For example, Kyiv residents purchased 6097 new passenger cars, 1313 new cars were registered in Kyiv region, and 1179 in Dnipropetrovs'k region. In the Lviv and Odesa regions, these figures were 878 and 860 units, respectively.
