Ukrainian cheese producers are facing a challenge in selling their products due to the growth of European cheese imports in the domestic market. According to Infagro's analysis, in the first quarter of 2024, imports of hard, semi-hard, and white cheese increased by 12%, which creates serious competition for domestic producers. In addition, imports of processed cheese increased by a quarter, further complicating the market situation.
Experts predict that cheese prices will not decrease in the near future, but consumers can expect promotions and discounts. However, such marketing measures may not save all producers from difficulties.
One of the main factors that complicates the situation for Ukrainian cheese producers is competition with European producers who offer their products at more affordable prices. This becomes especially relevant in the context of the hryvnia devaluation, which makes it difficult to import raw materials for cheese production.
Analysts also note that despite efforts to increase exports, sales of Ukrainian cheese abroad have declined. In the first quarter of this year, sales of semi-hard cheeses decreased by 11% compared to the same period last year, and sales of other cheese products even fell by almost a quarter. These data indicate a pessimistic outlook for further growth in Ukrainian cheese exports.
