In 2024, Ukraine significantly increased its bioethanol exports, sending 99.3 thousand tons of this ecological fuel to foreign markets. The bulk of the supply (87.6%) was undenatured bioethanol, which is actively used in the fuel industry and chemical production. The rest of the exports were denatured bioethanol, which contains special additives for technical applications.
According to the specialized publication "Naftorynok", the total value of Ukrainian bioethanol exports in 2024 reached UAH 70.5 million. The main sales market remains the countries of the European Union, where 87.1% of the total volume was sent. A significant share of exports also fell to Switzerland, which has high environmental fuel standards.
Enterprises from seven regions of Ukraine were engaged in the production and supply of bioethanol. Among the main producers are Zarubynsky, Haisynsky, Trostyanetsky and Khorostkivsky alcohol plants, Hnidavsky and Teofipolsky sugar plants, as well as Vitagro companies (Ternopil region), Westnol (Lviv region) and Budylsky experimental plant.
Bioethanol is an important component of ecological fuel. It is obtained by processing plant raw materials, in particular corn, sugar beet or other biomass crops. The use of this fuel allows to reduce dependence on oil and reduce emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere.
Due to its properties, bioethanol is actively used as an additive to gasoline, increasing its octane number and improving the combustion process in engines. This not only reduces the level of harmful emissions, but also contributes to the development of alternative energy sources. That is why in the European Union and the USA, bioethanol is widely used in the fuel industry, which opens up new opportunities for Ukraine for export.
The expansion of presence in European markets indicates the competitiveness of Ukrainian producers and the compliance of their products with international standards. In the future, the development of the bioethanol industry may become an important part of Ukraine's energy independence strategy, as well as contribute to increasing export revenues and modernization of production capacities.
