In 2025, putting together a traditional Easter basket for a Ukrainian will cost an average of UAH 912.52, which is 24% more than last year. In 2024, a similar set of products cost UAH 734.77. This is evidenced by data analyzed by *Economic Truth*.
The calculations included basic products that are usually included in a holiday basket: eggs, hard cheese, fermented milk cheeses, bacon, lard and butter. The cost of each product was estimated based on average prices from supermarkets, which are displayed on the "Minfin" portal.
Traditionally expensive items in the Easter set have risen in price the most - bacon and hard cheese. Half a kilogram of bacon costs UAH 285 this year, and 400 grams of cheese - UAH 262. These products have consistently remained the most expensive in the basket for the past five years.
Economist Oleg Pendzin explains that a price jump in the pre-holiday period is a common trend for Ukraine. The premium segment of products – meat products, homemade sausages, cheeses and dairy products – increases slightly in price throughout the year, but sharply increases in price just before the holidays. Demand during this period increases significantly, which provokes price fluctuations.
Yevhen Netreba, commercial director of the online service zakaz.ua, adds that a seasonal decrease in prices for these goods is observed during Lent, but two weeks before Easter, prices begin to grow actively – along with an increase in demand. This is the period that becomes the peak for Easter basket sales.
Price dynamics in recent years confirms a steady trend towards price increases. In 2021, the cost of the basic basket was UAH 452. That is, in five years it has more than doubled, reaching UAH 912 in 2025. This indicates the constant pressure of inflation and seasonal factors on the food market, especially in the context of religious and traditional holidays.
