In the first quarter of 2025, the Ukrainian fishing industry achieved significant results in the fishing of fish and krill. The total catch amounted to 18,265 tons, which indicates the active activity of the sector.
The most significant contribution to the total catch was made by Ukrainian vessels operating within the framework of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR). They caught more than 16 thousand tons of Antarctic krill, confirming the high level of technical training and efficiency of work.
Commercial fishing was also actively carried out in the waters of Ukraine, where 1,296 tons of various aquatic bioresources were caught. The main fish species were silver crucian carp and bream, which were caught in reservoirs in different regions of the country.
Thanks to special commercial fisheries (SCF), which combine aquaculture with commercial fishing, it was possible to obtain 518 tons of aquatic bioresources. This approach contributes to the preservation and development of aquatic ecosystems, ensuring a stable volume of fish production.
Despite the successes achieved, the sector is challenged by the military aggression of the Russian Federation, which led to the blockade of commercial fishing in the Black and Azov Seas. This creates additional difficulties for Ukrainian fishing enterprises and requires the search for alternative development paths.
Overall, the results of the first quarter of 2025 indicate a steady interest in the development of fisheries in Ukraine, focusing on the efficient use of natural resources and the need to protect aquatic bioresources for future generations.
