Ukraine is rapidly strengthening its position in the agricultural market of the Czech Republic. In 2024, exports of Ukrainian agri-food products to this country reached million, which is three times higher than in 2021. Such dynamics indicate a growing demand for Ukrainian products in the EU and the gradual expansion of trade and economic ties between Kyiv and Prague.
The basis of Ukrainian exports to the Czech Republic has traditionally been rapeseed, nuts, sugar, sunflower oil and sweets. These products are in steady demand among Czech consumers and food industry enterprises. In turn, the Czech Republic is increasing supplies to Ukraine, increasing imports of agricultural products to .6 million in 2024 - 60% more than in 2021. The most popular products are animal feed, live poultry, eggs and beer.
Cooperation between the countries is reaching a new strategic level. As part of the official visit of the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, to Kyiv, in the presence of his Ukrainian counterpart, Denys Shmyhal, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministers of Agriculture of both countries, Vitaliy Koval and Marek Vyborny. This document lays the foundation for expanding partnership in the agricultural and food sectors.
The new stage of cooperation involves specific initiatives: attracting Czech investments in the processing industry and agrologistics, creating joint ventures for the production of equipment for the food industry, and supporting product storage. In addition, it is planned to develop educational programs and exchanges between agricultural universities of both countries, as well as launch financial mechanisms to support agricultural projects.
Among the important areas are also the adaptation of Ukrainian legislation in the field of agriculture to European standards, support for the European integration process of Ukraine, development of livestock, plant breeding, aquaculture, as well as strengthening veterinary and phytosanitary control. The parties pay special attention to food safety, scientific research and innovations.
“We agreed not only on the exchange of experience and participation in exhibitions, but also on the creation of a special working group to coordinate joint initiatives,” emphasized Minister Vitaliy Koval. All these measures are aimed at making the agricultural partnership between Ukraine and the Czech Republic not only deeper, but also more systemic and promising in the long term.
