At the beginning of this week, Ukraine saw a sharp decline in prices for greenhouse tomatoes. According to analysts of the EastFruit project, the reason for this decline was the massive harvesting of tomatoes from film greenhouses in the southern regions of the country.
Despite the consistently high demand for these products, the supply of tomatoes is growing rapidly, leading to a rapid decline in prices. EastFruit analysts monitor the situation on a daily basis and confirm the increase in the supply of tomatoes on the market due to favorable weather conditions in most of Ukraine, which has accelerated the ripening process and increased their quantity.
As a result, the average price of greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine decreased by 25% during the week, and producers are ready to sell them at prices ranging from UAH 40 to 65 per kilogram, depending on the quality and volume of the batch.
It is worth noting that tomato prices were 16% lower in the same period last year. The downward trend in prices for greenhouse tomatoes on the Ukrainian market will continue, as many farms have just started the mass harvest.
However, the final outcome will depend on the balance between supply and demand, as well as changes in weather conditions that may affect the quality and quantity of available product.
This week, Ukraine has also seen a decline in wholesale prices for new crop potatoes. Currently, Ukrainian producers are offering to sell this vegetable at prices ranging from UAH 16 to 24 per kilogram.
