In the 2024/25 marketing year, sugar production in Ukraine is forecast at the level of 1.7-1.8 million tons. This information was made public by Oleksandr Korotynskyi, director of the Scientific and Practical Center "Sugar Beet Production" and a member of the Committee of the Agro-Industrial Complex at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine, reports the publication "ProAgro Group" with reference to AgroTimes.
According to Korotynskyi, the area under sugar beets this year remained at the level of last year and did not exceed 250 thousand hectares. This indicates the stability of production, despite possible challenges related to weather conditions.
The average yield of sugar beets on harvested areas is 460 centners per hectare, which corresponds to last year's figures. However, it is worth noting that the best yield results are observed in the west of Ukraine, where more favorable climatic conditions contributed to the development of plants.
In the central regions of Ukraine, in particular in Poltava Oblast, Cherkasy Oblast and Vinnytsia Oblast, the yield of sugar beet is lower. Although these areas have a slightly higher level of sugar content, this is not enough to compensate for the difference in yield with the western regions.
According to Korotynskyi, an important factor for improving the situation is adaptation to climate change and the introduction of new technologies in agricultural production. Increasing the efficiency of sugar beet cultivation can significantly affect the total volume of sugar production in Ukraine.
Thus, despite the existing challenges, Ukraine will be able to maintain stable sugar production, which will become an important factor for ensuring domestic consumption and exports.
