In connection with the need to increase the level of protection of strategic objects, defense and security measures will be strengthened in the seaports of Odesa region. This decision was announced by the Minister of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, Oleksiy Kuleba, emphasizing the importance of the stable operation of ports for global food security.
The minister emphasized that the safety of ports, their workers and ships remains a key priority against the background of modern challenges. The stable functioning of Ukrainian seaports is an important component of ensuring global food supplies, as well as maintaining Ukraine's economy.
"We are strengthening defense measures in each port, introducing additional mechanisms that will improve the level of protection. In addition, it is important to ensure proper protection of the personnel working in the territory of the ports. For this purpose, mobile shelters for employees will be arranged," Kuleba said. He also noted that this is part of a comprehensive strategy for the protection of marine objects.
In addition to security, the government plans to allocate additional financial resources for the restoration and modernization of the infrastructure of Odessa ports. This includes upgrading key facilities and increasing the security of port areas, which is critical for uninterrupted operations during the escalation of the situation in the region.
According to the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories, there are 86 vessels ready to export almost 2 million tons of cargo on the approach to the ports of Odesa, Chornomorsk and Yuzhnoye. This indicator shows the importance of the port infrastructure for the export of Ukrainian products to the world market.
During his visit to Odesa, Oleksiy Kuleba held a meeting with port managers, representatives of specialized state-owned enterprises, administrations and the military. The main issues related to the coordination of actions for the protection of critical infrastructure, coastal facilities and water areas.
