After a short period of decline, Ukraine has once again recorded an increase in prices for greenhouse cucumbers. As of today, their cost exceeds the level of the same period last year by an average of 33%. This is reported by analysts of the EastFruit project.
Experts call the main reason for the increase in price the reduction in the supply of imported cucumbers. Supplies from abroad do not meet demand, which causes instability in the market. "The supply of imported vegetables has significantly decreased, which is why buyer demand is not fully covered. This has become a factor in the growth of prices in this segment," analysts explain.
It should be noted that before the recent short-term decrease in price, cucumbers had been showing price growth for five weeks in a row, setting records for the current season. Such fluctuations in the cucumber market are typical for this time of year, especially in conditions of reduced yields in greenhouse farms and increased production costs.
An additional impact on the situation is the seasonal reduction in the supply of Ukrainian cucumbers from local greenhouses. Most farms have already completed the harvest, which traditionally limits the amount of available products on the domestic market. At the same time, market operators note that price stabilization is not yet expected.
The increase in the cost of cucumbers is becoming especially noticeable for Ukrainian consumers looking for an alternative to imported products. However, analysts do not predict a decrease in price pressure in the near future due to constant demand and reduced stocks.
Thus, the current price dynamics on the cucumber market indicate the need for greater diversification of supply and support for local production. This may become a key tool for stabilizing prices in future seasons.
