From the beginning of 2025, Ukrainians will be able to count on a significant increase in the limits of payments under compulsory third-party liability insurance contracts (motor third-party liability insurance). Thanks to legislative changes, the maximum payments for damage to life and health will increase from 320 thousand hryvnias to 500 thousand hryvnias.
This was stated by the Director General of the Motor Insurance Bureau of Ukraine (MIBU), Oleksandr Bernazyuk, quoted by Ukrinform. He emphasized that this step was made possible by the update of the Law of Ukraine “On Compulsory Third-Party Liability Insurance of Owners of Land Vehicles”.
Currently, the current limits of insurance payments are 320 thousand hryvnias for damage to life and health and 160 thousand for property. Starting next year, these amounts will increase to 500 thousand and 250 thousand hryvnias, respectively.
The new limits will be part of a phased increase that will bring the requirements closer to EU standards. Oleksandr Bernazyuk emphasized that the pace of this process will depend on the speed of the European integration of the Ukrainian economy.
Starting in 2026, it is planned to increase payments for health damage to 1 million hryvnia per injured person and up to 20 million hryvnia for all victims in one accident. As for property payments, they can reach 2 million hryvnia per case. However, these figures will be implemented only after the end of martial law.
