Geologists in Kazakhstan have discovered a significant deposit of rare earth metals, the total reserves of which may exceed 20 million tons. The new deposit, located 300 km southeast of Astana, was found in the Kuyuktykol area in the Novokazakhstan region.
Local authorities announced the discovery on April 2. According to preliminary calculations, the mineral reserves at a depth of 300 meters contain about 700 grams of rare earth elements per ton. This indicates a high concentration of these strategically important resources.
Among the rare earth metals discovered are neodymium, cerium, lanthanum and yttrium. They are critically important for the production of electronics, magnets, batteries and other technologies used in high-tech industries, including energy and defense.
Particularly promising for development are the Irgiz and Dos 2 areas, where the total concentration of rare earth metals exceeds 0.1%, and in individual samples reaches 0.25% and more. This makes them one of the most valuable points for further geological exploration and production.
The discovery of such a large-scale deposit can radically change Kazakhstan's position in the global rare earth metals market. In terms of reserves, the country can be second only to China and Brazil, which will make it one of the key players in this strategic area. It is expected that this will significantly increase the country's investment attractiveness and contribute to economic growth.
However, it is not yet known which companies can participate in the development of the deposit and when mining operations will begin. Further research and analysis of the reserves will help determine the commercial potential of this discovery and the prospects for its implementation on the global market.
