Ukrainian farmers continue an active spring sowing campaign, demonstrating stable pace despite difficult conditions. As of May 16, 2025, 4.95 million hectares of spring grain and leguminous crops have already been sown, which is 87% of the projected area. This is reported by ProAgro Group, citing operational data from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
The largest areas this year are traditionally allocated for corn for grain - 3.5 million hectares have already been cultivated, which corresponds to 87% of the planned volume. Barley was sown on 743.1 thousand hectares (96%), spring wheat - on 215.2 thousand hectares (95%), peas - on 210.9 thousand hectares (97%), and oats - on 158.3 thousand hectares. ha, which is 98% of the forecast.
As for buckwheat and millet, their areas are still much smaller: buckwheat has been sown on only 21.7 thousand ha (24%), and millet - 25.2 thousand ha (33%). This may indicate both a shift in emphasis in the cultural structure and the not yet completed stages of sowing these crops.
Among the leaders in terms of sowing areas of spring crops, Poltava region stands out, where 533.4 thousand ha have already been cultivated. In second place is Chernihiv region with 435 thousand ha, followed by Vinnytsia region - 368.2 thousand ha, Kirovohrad region - 362.6 thousand ha, and Kyiv region - 359.2 thousand ha. This indicates an even coverage of the campaign throughout the country, despite the challenges caused by the war.
In addition to grains, the sowing of industrial crops is actively underway, the total area of which has already reached 6.04 million hectares. The largest area is sown with sunflower — 3.9 million hectares (77% of the planned), with the Dnipropetrovsk region demonstrating the highest indicators — 570.8 thousand hectares. Soybeans were sown on 1.73 million hectares (72%), and sugar beets — on 217.1 thousand hectares, which is almost full fulfillment of the forecast — 99%.
Thus, the spring sowing of 2025 in Ukraine is taking place in a normal mode and is approaching the finish line. Farmers from all regions demonstrate high coordination and efficiency, despite military threats and economic difficulties. It is expected that if favorable weather conditions are maintained, the country will successfully complete the campaign in the near future.
