It is planned to raise teachers' salaries to 40,000 hryvnias. Salary will depend on the teacher's qualifications and his achievements over the years of work. This was stated by the Minister of Education Oksen Lisovyi during a speech at the National (un)conference EdCamp Volya 2023, reports Osvitoria.
According to the Ministry of Education and Science, the average salary of a young teacher consists of a salary of 5,700 hryvnias and various allowances, approximately 1,900 hryvnias. So, the average salary of a teacher in Ukraine is 7,600 hryvnias.
Compared to this, the average salary in the country is 13,400 hryvnias, that is, almost twice as much.
Serhiy Koleboshin, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Education, Science and Innovation, noted that discussions are currently ongoing regarding the amount of teachers' salaries, and the optimal amount is 40,000 hryvnias.
"I didn't make this amount up, I didn't pick it up out of thin air. It is based on calculations. However, this is not an easy populist decision, as it is accompanied by complex consequences, such as the certification of teachers, the reduction of the school network, the establishment of high criteria for candidates for the position of a teacher, and the limitation of the term of office of school principals," the deputy explained.
However, it is worth noting that such innovations are possible only after the end of the war.
By September 1, 2024, local self-government bodies must approve plans for the formation of a school network, taking into account the requirements of the law on lyceums.
The founders of the lyceums, in turn, by September 1, 2027, must provide the educational institutions with a material and technical base, equipment, access to the Internet and select teachers and heads of the lyceums on a competitive basis.
However, the reorganization of schools in rural areas, their liquidation or change of type is possible only after a public discussion of the founder's draft decision, which must be made public one year before the corresponding decision is made.
This complicates the process of changes, which is why the specialized committee of the Verkhovna Rada is currently considering a proposal to shorten this term.
