A significant increase in prices for high-quality white cabbage is being recorded in Ukraine. Analysts call the main reason for this phenomenon the increased demand for a quality product combined with a limited supply on the market.
According to EastFruit experts, many producers are refraining from selling, expecting a further increase in prices. Such a strategy creates a shortage of products, especially cabbage that meets the requirements for long-term storage.
Today, the cost of high-quality white cabbage ranges from 20 to 27 UAH per kilogram (about $0.48–0.65). This is 11% higher than last week, and 2.7 times more than in the corresponding period last year. Such a sharp jump in prices is explained not only by the supply restriction, but also by the reduction in the production volumes of this vegetable in Ukraine.
Experts note that one of the factors behind the price increase is the deterioration of cabbage storage conditions, which limits the possibility of keeping the product in warehouses for a long time. As a result, the market is dominated by demand for fresh products that meet high quality standards.
Market participants predict a further increase in the price of white cabbage in the coming weeks. The situation may be complicated by the seasonal decrease in supply, which is traditionally observed in the winter period.
For consumers, this means that cabbage prices will remain high, and access to a quality product may be limited. At the same time, producers who are able to store products for a long time can make significant profits in the event of further price increases.
