Starting July 11, 2023, new rules will come into force in Ukraine that will restrict the sale of tobacco products and ban the smoking of e-cigarettes in public places. These measures are intended to prevent and reduce the consumption of tobacco products, according to the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection.
In particular, the new law prohibits the sale of tobacco products containing additives such as vitamins and pseudo-nutrients, caffeine, taurine and energy supplements, substances that give emissions a colorful appearance, and substances that facilitate the absorption of nicotine.
In addition, there are restrictions on the sale of e-cigarette liquids with or without nicotine if these liquids contain prohibited additives, as well as if the volume of refill containers exceeds 10 ml, the volume of disposable e-cigarettes or cartridges exceeds 2 ml, and the nicotine concentration exceeds 20 mg per 1 ml.
The new rules will also prohibit the sale of cigarettes and tobacco for roll-your-own tobacco that have a characteristic smoke taste and odor, contain nicotine or flavoring and aromatic additives.
These measures are part of a strategy to minimize the harmful effects of tobacco use and move Ukraine towards a healthier lifestyle and environmental protection. The ban on smoking e-cigarettes in public places will help reduce the impact of secondhand smoke on the health of citizens, especially children and non-smokers.
The introduction of these restrictions will also contribute to building a healthy society and reducing healthcare costs associated with smoking. Taking into account the positive experience of other countries where similar measures have been introduced, it is expected that smoking bans and restrictions on the sale of harmful tobacco products will bring significant health and environmental benefits.
