Watermelon prices in Ukraine continue to decline, falling even below the level of 2022.
This was noted by experts from the EastFruit analytical project.
Today, the price of local watermelons already ranges from 10 to 17 hryvnias per kilogram ($0.02-0.03 per kg), which is 24% cheaper on average than at the end of last week.
According to the analysis of experts, retail prices for watermelons in Ukraine are now 24% lower than in early August 2022. However, producers do not rule out the possibility of further price reductions in this sector, as the supply of both local and imported watermelon is growing daily, while demand remains low.
Ukrainian watermelon producers are forced to sell their products even at lower prices, even at a time when production is declining in the country.
Restrictions on melon cultivation have become a challenge due to the occupied part of Kherson region and the devastating effects of the explosion at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station.
The accelerated ripening of watermelons in the field due to hot weather also led to a sharp increase in supply on the market. The drought observed in the southern regions has a negative impact on the quality of watermelons, causing further price declines in the sector.
