The authorities of the capital of Ukraine are studying the possibility of a sharp increase in the cost of public transport, which could reach 30 hryvnias, and at the same time develop environmentally friendly trolleybuses, which are planned to be brought outside the city, including the exit to the region. This plan was announced by Ruslan Kandybor, Director of the Kyiv City State Administration's Department of Transport Infrastructure, in an interview with Radio Kyiv - 98 FM.
According to Mr. Kandybor, one of the main goals is to replace private minibuses with environmentally friendly autonomous trolleybuses. However, he points out that such a change is possible only after the fares are raised.
To achieve this goal, Kandybor suggests raising the fare from the current UAH 8 to UAH 30, and only then begin the process of replacing minibuses with public transportation.
According to the director of the department, the main attention should be paid to autonomous trolleybuses, as their launch requires less money for the construction of a contact network.
In particular, it is planned to connect the left and right banks of Kyiv with trolleybuses that can travel a certain length of track without the need for wires. This will make it possible to expand routes to remote areas, including Kotsiubynske, Brovary, Bucha, and others.
It is noted that the implementation of these plans can contribute to the development of more sustainable, environmentally friendly and affordable public transportation in Kyiv and its environs.
