The Ukrainian Parliament has passed a law regulating the issue of digital postage stamps. The relevant bill No. 8280 was voted on in the second reading and in general by 251 deputies, with 14 abstentions. The document defines the concept of "digital postage stamp" and regulates the use of digital copies of stamps, emphasizing that they are not payment for mail forwarding services.
"Ukrposhta plans to issue stamps in NFT format using blockchain and cryptocurrency wallets. This innovative step is seen as an opportunity to develop domestic philately in the digital space, particularly among those familiar with blockchain technology.
Igor Smelyansky, CEO of Ukrposhta, noted that this initiative will help to maximize the digitalization of the company's processes and introduce powerful innovations, and the first NFT stamp will be charitable, and the funds raised will go to arm the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The draft law was introduced in December last year and received support in the first reading on April 10. The law allows the country to keep pace with global digitalization trends and make philately more accessible to the digital generation.
