In China, ByteDance, the company that owns the popular social network TikTok, has announced the launch of its own streaming service called TikTok Music. The move is aimed at competing with well-known music platforms such as Apple Music and Spotify. According to the information published on 9to5mac, the company plans to create an attractive platform that will offer a wide selection of music and personalized recommendations for users.
Just like other streaming services, TikTok Music allows its users to access the full catalog of songs and add them to their own music library. To make this possible, TikTok has partnered with leading music labels, including Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, and Sony Music.
However, to attract a particularly teenage audience, TikTok Music offers song recommendations and personalized playlists to help users find music that has gone viral thanks to videos on TikTok. In addition, the service also provides the ability to create shared playlists, import music library from other platforms, and search for songs by lyrics.
The new service also has a song identification feature that works similarly to Apple's well-known Shazam program. TikTok Music also allows users to comment on songs and albums, as well as find song suggestions by scrolling vertically, similar to the way it is done in the main TikTok video app.
